Radhika Apte has often become victim to leaked nude scenes from her movies, but the actress gave it back to whoever tried to create a controversy around it. She once even slammed a reporter who asked her about her leaked video. Radhika has seen it all in her career spanning over 12 years.

She recently opened up about how sex, sexuality and anything related to human body, including menstruation, is a big taboo in India, and here’s what she said:

“I think our country is very ashamed of sexuality, physicality, or human body. Anything to do with human body or sexuality is a problem here.”

She has also decoded how to shed all the inhibitions that stop us from discussing the topic with family and friends.

“Yes, there is a whole thing of generations of being awkward about things, but if you start taking a decision like ‘Okay, I am not going to feel like that’, it will make a difference. It should not feel awkward touching the pad in front of people. These are small things with which people have issues.”

Not only do men shy away from talking about menstruation, but, Radhika says, even women aren’t open to talking about it, and rightly so.

“Women also have issues about it. It is all a part of society and upbringing, and it is high time we changed it.”

Radhika is happy to be a part of Akshay Kumar-Sonam Kapoor starrer Pad Man, a movie that narrates the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man who invented affordable sanitary napkins after seeing his wife’s ordeal with poor menstruation hygiene.
